Karen Kuronuma

Pianist
born in Tokyo in 1998.
After graduating her studies at the University of the Arts in Tokyo, she began her studies at the CNSM in Paris in 2021.
Karen graduated in piano at the University of the Arts in Tokyo under the direction of Chiharu Sakai and Koji Shimoda and is currently studying at the National Conservatory of Music and Dance in Paris with Reiko Hozu, at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels with Johan Schmidt.
In 2022, she was selected by Association Jeunes Talents and she has collaborated with pianist Noriko Ogawa, conductors Naoto Otomo, Daisuke Mogi, Kazuyoshi Akiyama, Péter Csaba, violinist Mohamed Hiber and trumpeter Romain Leleu, cellist Peter Maintz, oboist Hans-Jörg Schellenberger, and soprano Juliane-Banse.performs in chamber music recitals and solo, in France, the Czech Republic, Belgium, Italy, Spain and Japan.

She acquired perfect pitch at the age of one and a half and started playing on the piano, and began learning seriously at the age of seven.
She placed in second at the 11th International Piano Competition “Chopin for the youngest” in Poland, nominated for a prize at 15th Ettlingen Internatinal Competition for Young Pianists, and received the Best Award for PTNA Piano Competition category G.
2014
Entering The Music High School attached to the Faculty of Music, Tokyo University of the Arts. At the age of 16, she wins first prize, the Academy Award of Nomura, the award of Iguchi Aiko, the award for Music Encouragement, as well as the NHK Prize in the 68th Student Music concours of Japan, high school section.
2017
Winning the 2018 Muza Soloist Audition, Karen Kuronuma starred as Soloist of Tokyo Symphony Orchestra in “ The Masterpiece Classics”.
Whilst many concerts faced cancella- tions and postponements due to the COVID-19 crisis, The Masterpiece Classics took a new approach by broadcasting the no-audience concert on “Niconico Live”, which successfully gained over 10 million views and acclamations from media for manifesting new possibilities of Classic Concerts today.
The CD of the live-streaming, released as “Live from Muza!”, won the Academy Award for Best Recording under Special Category and the Music Pen Club Special Prize.

Awarded a grant from the Maurice Ravel International Academy Danny Poczek Foundation.
